Note on the Trinity

Updated: Apr 15

Bonaventure says that "To the objection that no being that can be thought not to exist is supremely necessary, it must be said that this is true when that necessity is clearly evident, but not when it lies hidden. Hence, while the most blessed trinity can be both believed and thought not to exist now because it has not yet been revealed to us as it is, yet when it will have become clear to us as it is, then in no way will it be possible to think of it as not existing. The fact that now it can be believed or thought not to exist is not because of any lack of certitude or truth in itself, since it exists always and everywhere and supremely; but it is because of a lack of light on our part".
